Coach

Tony thompson

Tony Thompson is a seasoned sports professional and influential figure in the realm of collegiate basketball. Currently serving as the Head Coach at St. Cecilia Academy HS, Nashville, TN.  In addition, Coach Thompson serves in the role as Associate Head Coach for the Women’s Basketball program at Volunteer State Community College in Nashville, Tennessee, Tony has contributed significantly to the team’s success over the past decade. Volunteer State Community College is proud to be a member of the NJCAA (National Junior College Athletic Association) conference, Region 7.
 

Tony’s collegiate coaching journey began at Fisk University, an HBCU (Historically Black College or University), where he spent nine years dedicated to the coaching program. During his tenure at Fisk University, he held the position of Associate Head Coach for both the Men’s and Women’s Basketball teams, demonstrating versatility and expertise in both domains. In his final season, Tony was promoted to the role of Interim Head Coach for the Women’s Basketball team.

Coach Tony holds the unique distinction of coaching Fisk University’s leading rebounder, Nacori Foreman, who achieved an outstanding feat by concluding her collegiate career with an impressive tally of 1000 rebounds, 500 points, including a 100 block shots in her senior season. This remarkable record, achieved under Tony’s guidance, remains unmatched to this day within both the men’s and women’s basketball programs at Fisk University.
 

Furthermore, Tony played a pivotal role in guiding Fisk University to the semi-finals of the GCAC conference tournament. This accomplishment was marked by a thrilling upset, overcoming the formidable #1 seed, Xavier University of New Orleans, and Dillard University. Notably, this marked the first time Fisk reached the semi-finals in the GCAC (Gulf Coast Athletic Conference) tournament, showcasing Tony’s strategic coaching prowess and his ability to lead teams to unprecedented success on the court.

Tony’s coaching prowess extends beyond the college level, as he served three impactful years as the Assistant Boy’s Basketball Coach at Ravenwood High School in Brentwood, Tennessee.

In late 2022, Tony embarked on a new venture by founding The “RIZE NIL” Sports Marketing Agency. This agency operates in alignment with the NCAA’s (Name, Image, and Likeness) rules. Currently representing five Division 1 athletes and three national brands, The “RIZE NIL” has rapidly grown under Tony’s leadership. Over the past year, the agency has successfully connected athletes and brands, maximizing their awareness campaigns on a global scale.
 

Tony’s passion for sports extends into the realm of media, as he stepped into the role of sports commentator for the Interludes Extra Talk on Tuesdays podcast platform in 2021. In collaboration with Val “The Voice” Johnson, Tony now co-hosts an engaging entertainment and sports podcast.

Looking ahead to 2024, Tony is set to launch his sports-focused podcast, “The PullUp Podcast Show,” under the Pure Lighthouse Media umbrella. The show will feature insightful discussions with guests and coaches from the dynamic world of sports. Tony’s multifaceted career reflects his commitment to excellence, both on and off the court, making him a respected figure in the sports industry.
